Drawings

  • We recently released a contextual search feature that allows you to search your full set of drawings for all occurrences of a specific term.  Have your students complete a scavenger hunt as they’re learning to read plans in a digital format!

  • Are your students always on their smartphones in class?  Leverage that technology addiction and try Drawings on Mobile!  With Procore’s iOS and Android apps, students can create items like RFIs and Punch Lists directly on a drawing using our markup tools.

Submittals

  • Put students in teams to create a submittal based on the project’s spec book!  Have one student create the submittal and the other student respond to the submittal - and then have them switch roles.

  • Customize the configuration settings for the project’s Submittals tool to build yourself into the Default Distribution List so you’ll automatically have insight into each of their responses sent directly to your inbox.

  • Be sure your students close and distribute the submittal once the final Approver has replied to avoid any overdue emails!

Company Directory

  • Need to update a student’s permissions for a new semester? Run a directory update import via our new Imports App (for systems running Windows 7 or newer) to overwrite existing default permission templates and company settings for current users.  Be sure to keep the first name, last name, and email address the same for each user you’re updating!

  • Want to keep your directory organized? Use your Course Number, Semester, and/or Team as the student’s Company so they’re easy to identify!  For example, a Company name similar to “CM353 F19 Team 1” will help you bulk add students to project directories and mark students as inactive when they no longer need access to Procore.

Daily Log

  • Configure the advanced settings for the Daily Log within your student projects up to allow Collaborator Entry on certain logs!  You’re only allowed one daily log per project per day, so Collaborator Entry gives more students a chance to enter information.  Don’t forget to also check the ‘Show Created By On Log Entries’ box so you can see who created each entry!

  • If your students are working in groups, have each student complete a Daily Log for a specific date and check their overall progress using our new Daily Log Calendar view from your computer!  Remember: you can enter Daily Log information for previous days, but you cannot enter information for future days.

Inspections

  • Create a simple company level Inspection template based on the building your classroom is located in.  Send students on a scavenger hunt using our iOS or Android Procore mobile apps or their laptops to perform the inspection!

Punch List

  • Leverage our default Punch Item Templates that are already included within your Company Admin tool to introduce students to punch items that commonly occur on job sites.

  • Since these templates can only be used when creating punch items on our mobile apps, have students create items directly on a drawing using our markup tools on their iOS or Android smartphone!

Budget

  • Group your students into teams and have each team manually create budget line items for their assigned cost division! For example, one team could be responsible for Concrete line items and another for Doors and Windows line items. This also tests your students’ ability to compile a complete scope of work and costs for their division.

  • Keep your budget unlocked as teams are adding their line items, and remember Procore allows only one complete budget per project!

Change Orders

  • Be sure you have at least one Prime Contract and/or Commitment built into your project prior to beginning your Change Order exercise - without one of these items, students won’t be able to create a Change Order.

  • Help students build good habits by including Change Events in your exercise.  Change Events allow you to prepare for any costs associated with job site changes before those costs affect your budget!  This is especially helpful when creating Commitment Change Orders

Commitments

  • Introduce students to defining a clear scope of work, complete with inclusions and exclusions, by creating a Subcontract.  Students will be prompted to enter a detailed Schedule of Values to establish the monetary value of the contract in Procore. Make sure the contract is set to ‘Approved’ status so they can view how it’s reflected on their Budget

  • You can also create Purchase Orders for a Bill of Materials without associated labor costs.

Bidding

  • Launch the estimating process by creating a bid package and inviting your students to bid! Group students into “companies” within your directory and encourage collaboration by inviting everyone on the team to bid - they’ll only be able to submit one bid per company!

  • Be sure your drawings, specifications, and relevant files are uploaded prior to creating your bid package so you’ll be able to include them in your package.

  • Would you rather have students submit bids individually?  Be sure they each have a unique “company” name so they’ll be directed to their confidential spot to submit their bid
