Edit a Submittal Response


To input a response for a submitter or approver designated in the submittal workflow. 


Use these steps when a submitter or approver is unable to input his or her submittal response. For example, if an approver is on travel and provides you with a verbal confirmation about their response, a user with 'Admin' level permissions can input that response on the approver's behalf.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permission:
    • 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Submittals tool.
  • Requirements:
    • To edit a response, the submittal must be in the Open status.
  • Additional Information:
    • The Forward for Review option is available when editing a response. See Forward a Submittal for Review
    • If your company has created custom submittal responses for use with the project's Submittals tool (see Create Custom Submittals Responses), the responses have been customized to fit the specific needs of your organization. See your company's Procore Administrator or the Submittals Manager for information about the proper use for each response on your project.


  1. Navigate to the project's Submittals tool.
  2. Locate the desired submittal and click View.
    This opens the submittal in view mode. 
  3. Scroll to the Submittal Workflow area.
  4. Locate the desired approver's name. 
  5. Choose from these options:
    • If the approver has already submitted a response, click Set a Ball In Court. This shifts responsibility to the selected user. Then click Edit Response.
    • If the approver has NOT submitted a response, click Edit Response.

  6. Modify the person's response as needed:
    • ​You can also change the response date and the sent date of the approver. (Note: If the submittal is in the Closed status, it cannot be edited. See Things to Consider above.)
