Switch Budget Views

Objective

To view a project's budget and the budget line item details.

Background

There are two views available for viewing your budget, the Cost Code Detail view and the Cost Code Summary view.

  • The Cost Code Detail view shows data at the Cost Code and Cost Code Category level of detail. Therefore, if you have costs on cost code 1-500 Labor and 1-500 Other, these will appear as separate rows on the Budget.
  • The Cost Code Summary view does not show the Cost Code Category column in the Budget. Therefore, if you have costs on cost code 1-500 Labor and 1-500 Other, these will appear on the same row on the Budget for this view. This is a useful view if you have multiple rows related to an item and only a single row has budget dollars on it. This view allows you to look at budget reports at the cost code level.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permission: 'Read-Only' and above on the project's Budget tool.
  • The Cost Code Summary view currently does not allow you to click on the dollar values and drill down to the change orders/contracts that make up that number, and you will not be able to modify the Forecast to Complete values.  You will need to switch to the Cost Code Detail view for that functionality.
  • The view you select is "sticky," so that if you leave the tab, or sign out, the Budget will remember the last view you were using and load that view.

Steps

View Cost Code Detail

  1. Navigate to the project's Budget tool.
  2. In the Views box in the right pane, click Cost Code Detail.

  3. You will see the Cost Code Detail view that shows data at the Cost Code and Cost Code Category level of detail.

View Cost Code Summary

  1. Navigate to the project's Budget tool.
  2. In the Views box in the right pane, click Cost Code Summary.
  3. You will see the Cost Code Summary view that does not show the cost code categories column.
Note: At this time the Cost Code Summary view does not allow you to click on the dollar values and see drill downs to the change orders/contracts that make up that number, and you will not be able to modify the Forecast to Complete values.  You will need to switch to the Detail View (the current view) for that functionality.
