Project Setup
Objective
This section will teach you how to set up a Project in DroneDeploy
Note: This section is recommended for those with admin-level permissions. If you do not have those permissions, please reach out to 360photos@kastbuild.com for help; otherwise, follow the steps below.
Organizing your Plans in Procore
Before setting up your floor plans in DroneDeploy, you'll need to properly organize them in Procore
- Create a separate Drawing Area in Procore called DroneDeploy/360 Walks, with the description set to “Not for Construction”
- From your main Drawing Area, Download the necessary Floor Plans for your project
- KAST Best Practice is to download the Structural Foundation Plan(s), and all of the Overall Floor Plans.
- If a floor plan is assigned to multiple floors (e.g. L06-L08), you'll need to make a copy of that Drawing for each floor
- Once you have downloaded the drawings, label each drawing with the following to clearly note its use
- Stamp each sheet with a "NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION" label.
- Rename the drawing Floor Plan - Area - Drone / 360 Walks
- Rename this both at the Drawing Title at the corner of the page, and at the Title Block
- Make sure to flatten the labels before uploading to Procore
- Upload the drawings to the DroneDeploy/360 Walks drawing area.
- Name the drawing set DroneDeploy, and call your Revision "DRONE"
- In instances where you have numerous sheets that are the same, rename each sheet to be unique during the upload process
- e.g. you have duplicate sheets for L06-L08, rename each sheet so that the new drawing title matches the area it represents (L06, L07, L08, and so on)
- Publish the set to Procore
Adding and Managing Levels and Drawings
In order to have your walks and photos populate in the right location, you'll need to add levels to your project in DroneDeploy that match the levels of your project in Procore. To Create a New Level:
- Under the Explore tab on the top toolbar, navigate to the Interior option
- Select the adjacent dropdown that says "No Levels", then click "New Level"
- Note: Once you've added drawings/levels, this will no longer say "No Levels". It will instead list the last Level that was viewed
- Select the Procore icon on the left hand side, navigate to your project in the dropdown, then select "Drone" as the discipline
- Select your drawing and rename the Level, being sure to follow the KAST Standard for Level Naming (i.e. L01 for Level 1, L02 for Level 2 etc.)
- Repeat the above steps until you've uploaded drawings for all of the Levels/Areas in your building
Change Your Floor Plan
Keeping your interior ground captures aligned with the latest project developments is crucial, and DroneDeploy makes it easy to update your floor plans in just a few steps. Note that the following steps assume you've already slipsheeted the new drawings in Procore!
- Adding the New Plan as an Overlay:
- Follow the process you already know! Navigate to the desired level, select "+" next to "Layers" and upload the updated floor plan.
- Pro Tip: Include the date in the title of the new drawing for easy version control and reference.
- Identifying the Old Plan:
- Ensure you're viewing the correct level and access the "Layers" tab.
- Locate the outdated floor plan overlay you want to replace.
- Delete the Old Plan
Note: Procore users will not be able to have drawings automatically slipsheet the updated version from Procore at this time. This functionality, however, will be available in the future and will negate the need for this type of drawing management in this section.
