Delete Observation Types

Objective

To delete custom and default observation types so that the list of observation types is aligned with your company's observation needs.

Background

By default, Procore offers five categories of observations with specific observation types within each category. You can add, delete, and edit custom and default observation types in the Company level Admin tool. See What are the default observation types used for?

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • 'Admin' on the Company level Admin tool.
  • Prerequisites:
    • You can only delete observation types that are not currently assigned to an item in the Observations tool. If you would like to delete the observation type, follow the prerequisites below.
      (Note: You need 'Admin' level permissions on the Observations tool to delete observations.)
      1. Search for and filter observations to view that type. 
      2. Edit each observation so that it is either assigned another observation type or it is not assigned an observation type.
      3. Click Update.
      4. Follow the directions below.
  • Important! 
    • When you delete an observation type at the company level, it will also remove the observation type from the project level.
    • Observation types that are currently in use cannot be deleted.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Company level Admin tool.
    This reveals the Company Settings page.
  2. Under "Tool Settings," click Observation Types.


     
  3. Click on the red X next to the observation type you would like to delete.
    (Note: You cannot delete the categories that appear in gray at the top of each section. They are the following: Commissioning, Quality, Safety, Warranty, Work to Complete.)
  4. Changes are automatically saved, so you can leave the page when you're done editing.
