What is a naming standard in the Document Management tool?

The Configure Settings page of the Document Management tool has a 'Naming Standards' section for creating and applying naming standards for the project. See Edit the Naming Standard for the Document Management Tool.

Answer

A naming standard is a file naming convention that is used to create unique IDs for documents and ensure that standard or company-specific requirements are met. In Procore's Document Management tool, naming standards are used for populating the metadata of a file on upload, AND for generating the appropriate name of a file as metadata changes.

The ISO 19650 standard Naming Convention uses seven pieces of metadata that are strung together.

The typical naming standard for drawings in the United States is Discipline-Doc Number. For example, A-101 for an Architectural first floor plan.
