Unlock a Budget

Objective

To unlock a project's budget.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions: 'Admin' on the Budget tool
  • A budget can only be unlocked if no Budget Modifications have been made to it.
  • The ability to unlock a previously locked budget is designed for users who accidentally found an error in the original budget shortly after it was locked.
  • Unlocking a budget is not recommended for the addition of line items during an active project, because any changes to the original budget are designed to be implemented using change orders or budget modifications, which can be more accurately tracked and recorded. However, you can add new items to the budget, but the "Original Budget" value must be $0. Remember, the main benefit of locking a budget is to ensure that any future changes that affect the original budget are properly captured in order to preserve the historical accuracy of how the original budget evolved into the current budget over time.
  • If the company's ERP Integrations tool is setup for Sage 300 CRE, the ability to unlock an exported budget will not be available until:
    • The export from Procore to Sage is complete.
    • The exported entries have been manually posted to Sage using its Job Cost function.
    • The Sage data is synced with the hh2 Cloud Service and then back to Procore.

Steps

  1. Go to the project's Budget tab.
  2. Click the Unlock Budget button.
Note: If the Unlock Budget is grayed out and unavailable, you can click the Retrieve from ERP button. See Retrieve a Budget from ERP.
