Add Materials to a Container
Objective
To add materials to a container in the Materials tool.
Background
When storing your material inventory, you can store materials at a stationary location, or you can store them in a container that is mobile and can move from one location to another. You can issue materials for use from the container, or you can issue the container, and all the stored materials at one time.
Things to Consider
- Required User Permissions
- If adding materials to a container from a shipment, the shipment must be 'Pending'.
Steps
You can add materials to a container in the following places:
Tip
If the container already exists and is marked as 'reusable', you can select the container in the 'To Location' field for the line items.Add Materials to a Container from a Shipment or Receipt
- Navigate to the project's Materials tool.
- Click the Control tab.
- Click the Shipments or Receipts sub tab.
- Click the shipment number or receipt number.
- Under 'Document Line Items', click the caret icon for the line item and select Add to Container.
  
 OR
 To add multiple items, mark the checkboxes, then click the hamburger icon and select Add to Container. icon and select Add to Container.
  
- Create a new container or add materials to an existing container.
    - Create a new container.
        - Click the New tab.
- Enter the container information.
            - Enter the Container Name.
- Enter the Container Type.
- Move the Reusable Container toggle  to the ON position if additional materials can be added to the container at a later time. to the ON position if additional materials can be added to the container at a later time.
- Optional: Enter the Sensor information.
- Optional: Enter the Description.
- Optional: Enter the Container Weight.
- Optional: Enter the Container Dimensions.
 
- Click Create.
- Locate the new line item for the container.
- Update the To Location field for the container to assign the container to a location
 
- Add to an existing container.
        - Click the Existing tab
- Select the container, then click Add.
 
 
- Create a new container.
        
Tip
If needed, you can remove items from a container before releasing the shipment or posting the receipt. Follow these same steps and instead of selecting 'Add to Container', select Remove from Container.Transfer Materials to a Container
- Navigate to the project's Materials tool.
- Click the Control tab.
- Click the Transfers sub tab.
- Click the transfer number.
- In the 'Documents Line Items' header, click the hamburger  icon and select Add to Container. icon and select Add to Container.
  
- Create a new container or add materials to an existing container.
    - Create a new container.
        - Click the New tab.
- Enter the container information.
            - Enter the Container Name.
- Enter the Container Type.
- Move the Reusable Container toggle  to the ON position if additional materials can be added to the container at a later time, or move the toggle to the ON position if additional materials can be added to the container at a later time, or move the toggle to the OFF position if the container cannot be reused. to the OFF position if the container cannot be reused.
- Optional: Enter the Sensor information.
- Optional: Enter the Description.
- Optional: Enter the Container Weight.
- Optional: Enter the Container Dimensions.
 
- Click Create.
- Locate the new line item for the container.
- Update the To Location field for the container to assign the container to a location.
 
- Add to an existing container.
        - Click the Existing tab
- Select the container, then click Add.
 
 
- Create a new container.
