How does someone become a 'Follower' of a conversation in Procore?
Background
When you are a follower of a conversation in Procore, it is shown in the Conversations tool in your account. See Follow or Unfollow a Conversation. There are a few ways that users can become, or be made, a follower of a conversation.
Note: You can see who is currently following a conversation by clicking on the followers icon while viewing a conversation.
Answer
- Procore automatically adds certain users as followers when a conversation is created, depending on the tool and item. See the table in the List of Automatic Followers by Tool section below.
- Users become followers of a conversation if they are mentioned in a message (using the @ symbol on your keyboard or @mention button). See Mention a User in a Conversation.
- Users with permission to view an item can become a follower by clicking the Follow button for that conversation.

Important
The list of Followers does not update for changes made to the Assignee, Distribution List, etc. after a conversation is created. If these roles are modified and you would like to add other users as followers, you can mention them in the conversation to automatically make them followers.Tool | Users who are automatically made a Follower of a conversation: |
