Manage Placeholder Resources
Background
Often during the early stages of a schedule, you know what trade is needed (e.g., "Electrical Sub") but not who the specific vendor will be. Placeholders allow you to build out the logic and resource-load the schedule without needing specific directory entries.
Steps
Create and Assign Placeholders
-
In the schedule settings (or directly in the Resource column), type a generic name such as "Drywall Sub" or "MEP Crew."
-
Assign this placeholder to all relevant activities across the schedule.
Bulk-Replace Placeholders with Real Companies
-
Once a vendor has been selected for the project, locate any task assigned to that Placeholder.
-
Right-click the placeholder name in the grid.
-
Select Assign to real company.
-
In the window that appears, select the winning vendor from the Project Directory.
-
Click Update.
-
Note: Procore will automatically update every instance of that placeholder across the entire schedule with the actual company name.
