Rename a File

Also available on

Objective

To rename a file in the Documents tool.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • To rename a file, 'Admin' level permission on the project's Documents tool.
      OR
    • To rename a file as a user with 'Standard' or 'Read-only' level permission on the project's Documents tool, the 'Rename Folders and Files' granular permission must be enabled on the permission template associated with your user account on the project. See Grant Granular Permissions in a Permission Template.
  • Additional Information:
    • Keep the following in mind when working with the Company level or Project level Documents tool:

      • The tasks that you can perform are determined by the permission level that you've been granted for each tool. See What are the default permission levels in Procore? You may not always be assigned the same permission level on both your company's and a project's Documents tool.
      • Access permissions are typically set by your company's Procore Administrator (or another contact at your organization who has been delegated the authority to administer a specific project and/or project tool).

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Documents tool.
    This reveals the Documents page.
  2. In the tree view, navigate to and highlight the desired file.
This reveals the selected file's details in the center pane.
Note: The illustrations below show a file being renamed in the company's Documents tool. When renaming files in a project's Documents tool, the only difference you'll notice is that you are renaming a file stored in the specific project's documents folder.
  3. Choose one of the following to rename the file:
    1. Right-click the file and choose Rename from the shortcut menu. This opens the Rename this File window. Type a new name in the File Name box and then click Save
