Add a Related Item to a File in the Documents Tool

Objective

To add a related item to a file in the project's Documents tool.

Background

In Procore, a related item is link between two Procore objects (see What are "related items" in Procore?). You can add related items to your files in the project's Documents tool. 

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • To add or delete related items, 'Admin' on the Documents tool. 
    • To view related item titles only, 'Read Only' on the Documents tool and permission to access the file. 
    • To view and access related items, 'Standard' on the Documents tool and permission to access the file.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Documents tool.
  2. Select the file you want to add a related item to. 
  3. If the Info panel is not already open, click the info  icon. 
  4. Scroll down to and click Related Items.
  5. In the Related Items window, complete the following:
    • Type: Select the type of item from the drop-down menu.
      Note: The types that appear in the list depend on the tools that are active in the project. For example, to attach a submittal as a related item, the Submittals tool must be active on to the project. See Add and Remove Tools from a Project.
    • Description: Select the item from the drop-down menu.
      Note: You must have permission to view the item on the corresponding Procore tool. For example, to select an RFI from the list, you must have permission to view it in the project's RFIs tool. 
    • Date: If applicable, the date is automatically populated based on the item selected.
    • OptionalNotes: Add notes about the related item. 
  6. Click Add.
    Note: This adds the related item to the file details.
