Move a Document Revision to a Different Document Name in the Document Management Tool
Background
When you update a document's name or a field associated with a naming standard, the Document Management tool identifies if the change requires the revision to live under a different document name. By confirming the move, you ensure the document's metadata remains consistent with the target document record's latest version while maintaining the file's revision history.
Things to Consider
-
Upload permissions on the Document Management tool.
Note: To fulfill or interact with a placeholder assigned to a company, you must be associated with that designated originator company and have document upload permissions. -
This feature is available for documents in the Uploads tab, the Document Viewer, and during Bulk Edit actions.
-
The drop-down selection lists only the file formats of uploaded file.
-
This feature is not supported for document placeholders.
Steps
-
Navigate to the project's Document Management tool.
-
Locate the file you want to move in the Uploads tab or open the file in the Document Viewer.

Modify the Name field or any field associated with the project's Naming Standard. For example, Originator, Type, or Volume.

In the Move Revision confirmation modal that appears, review the Current Document and Target Document details.
This confirmation modal only appears when performing one of the following actions:-
Selecting an option from the Document Name drop-down menu.
-
Performing Bulk Edits on the document uploads page.
-
Editing the document name directly when a Naming Standard is disabled for that specific type on the document uploads or viewer page.
-
-
Click Move Revision. The document moves to the new record and automatically inherits metadata from its latest version.
-
(Optional) To keep the document in its original location and revert your changes, click Cancel.
