How Does the Documents Tab and Its Search Function Work in the Estimating Tool?
Background
The Documents tab in the estimating tool is where you can access and manage various documents, primarily PDF files, relevant to your estimate. These documents often include important materials like construction drawings or specifications.
Understanding the Search Function
The search function within the Documents tab is designed to help you quickly locate specific documents.
- What it Searches For:
- Document Titles and Context. The tool searches through the file name, the main document title, the document itself and any extra notes or tags you've added to the document.
- Full Document Content. You can search for a specific phrase, and the tool will scan the content of every document you've uploaded. If those exact words are inside a document, that file will appear in your search results.
- How Results Appear:
- The search returns the documents (or list of documents) that contain the matching text, whether the match was in the document's title/context or deep within the document's content.
- No Highlighting within Documents:
- The search process identifies which documents contain your search terms, but it does not highlight where those terms are located once you open the document.
