How does drag-and-drop file upload work in the Document Management tool?
Answer
You can drag files from your computer and drop them directly onto the upload table on the Uploads tab in the Document Management tool to initiate an upload without opening the file picker dialog.
-
Can I still use the file picker button?
Yes. Clicking Add > Upload File remains available. Drag-and-drop is an additional, alternative way to start the exact same upload process. -
Where exactly can I drop files?
You can drop files onto the main table area on the Uploads tab. Drop targets are not supported on document rows, placeholder rows, or tearsheets. -
What happens after I drop files onto the Uploads table?
Dropped files pass through the standard upload pipeline, including machine learning metadata detection, file name scraping, and submission workflows. Real-time progress appears in the upload toast notification at the bottom right corner of the screen. -
Is there a maximum limit on how many files I can drop at once?
There is no hard cap on simultaneous file uploads via drag-and-drop. However, keeping upload batches under 200 files is recommended for optimal browser performance. -
Can I drag and drop folders into Document Management?
No. Folders are not supported for upload in Document Management, including via drag-and-drop. If a folder is dropped, an alert banner will notify you that folders are not supported. If you drop a batch containing both files and folders, supported files will upload while the folders are ignored. -
What happens if a dropped file format is not supported?
The upload toast notification will display an error message stating the specific failure reason. -
Do permissions or document fields change with this feature?
No. You still need to belong to a Document Management permission group with the Submit New Files (or Upload New Files) permission enabled. No fields or permissions were added, removed, or modified. -
Does drag-and-drop change how revisions are matched?
No. Revision matching continues to use the existing Name and Format detection logic after the file enters the upload pipeline.
