Answer

The Connected Items feature in the Document Management Viewer allows team members to anchor project items (such as Coordination Issues, Observations, RFIs, and so on) directly to specific X/Y coordinates on a document page. Pins provide a centralized, spatially aware view of project issues without requiring a formal review workflow.

  • Which item types support pinning across Web and Mobile?

    • Web: Supports Coordination Issues, Observations, RFIs, Inspections, Inspection Items, and Punch/Snag items.

    • Mobile: Specifically supports Coordination Issues, Observations, RFIs, and Punch List items.

  • Can I create a brand-new item directly from a pin drop?

    • On Web: Creating brand-new items directly from the viewer is supported only for Coordination Issues and Observations. RFIs, Inspections, Inspection Items, and Punch List items must already exist in Procore to be linked.

    • On Mobile: You can create brand-new Coordination Issues, Observations, RFIs, and Punch List items directly from the viewer when dropping a pin.

  • What user permissions are required to pin items?
Pinning items in a document workspace requires the edit_public_layers permission in the Document Management tool. It does not require workflow markup permissions (edit_markup).

  • Are pinned items linked to Document Workflows?
No. Pins created via the Connected Items tab are completely independent and do not interact with pins or issues created within the Comment Register workflow.

  • Can I convert drawing markups into pinned items on Mobile?
Yes. On the Procore Mobile app, open the Markups panel, select a markup group, tap ... > Escalate Group to, choose the item type, and select Attach (to an existing record) or Create New to turn the markup into a pinned record.

  • How do I filter pins on the document canvas?

    • On Web: Use the filter UI to toggle pins on or off by item type, status, or creator.

    • On Mobile: Tap the Filter icon inside any Connected Items list panel to switch between Show status color, Show pinned only, or Show unpinned only.
