Process: Vehicle Accident Procedures 

 

Objective 

Ensure the safety of employees who drive company vehicles and to provide guidance on the proper use of company fleet vehicles. Vehicle accidents are costly to our company, but more importantly, they may result in injury to you or other.  

 

Things to Consider 

FIRST and most IMPORTANT make sure you are ok. All accidents in company vehicles or in personal vehicles on company business, regardless of severity, must be reported to the police and to the Safety Director and the Tool Department. Accidents are to be reported immediately. 

 

Vehicle Accident Procedure  

  1. Call 911. All accidents, regardless of severity, must be reported to the police.  

  1. DO NOT DISCUSS the accident with anyone at the scene except the police. DO NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY for the accident. DO NOT ARGUE with anyone. 

  1. Obtain all pertinent information 

  1. Take pictures: 

  1. Damage to all vehicles 

  1. License plates of all vehicles  

  1. Make and model of all vehicles  

  1. All drivers’ insurance cards 

  1. All drivers’ driver’s licenses 

  1. Accident site 

  1. Street signs 

  1. Record names, addresses, and phone numbers of drivers, witnesses, and occupants of the other vehicles and any medical personnel who may arrive at the scene. 

  1. Complete the form located in the Vehicle Accident Packet. 

  1. Provide the other party with your name, address, driver’s license number, and insurance information only. 

  1. Immediately report the accident to the Safety Director and to the Tool Department. 

  1. Provide a copy of the accident report and/or your written description of the accident to the Safety Director.
