Process: Greasing Skid Loader

Objective

Grease helps prevent corrosion and purges debris and contamination from bearing surfaces. Many points on a machine need to be greased daily for preventive maintenance. Skipping grease points or not greasing according to recommended intervals could result in galled pins and bushings and minimized bearing life.

Things to Consider

Many joints, linkages and moving parts on your heavy-duty equipment are designed to move on a layer of oil. Just as your engine needs oil for proper lubrication and to avoid friction, the moving parts of your equipment need grease for smooth movement and to eliminate wear from heat and friction.

The skid loader needs to be greased every 10 working hours put on the machine.

Greasing Skid Loaders

·       You will need to get the following:

o   Grease Gun

o   Gloves

o   Towels or cloths

o   Extra Tubes of Grease

·       Choose the grease recommended by the manufacturer.

·       Locate your grease points. It’s a good idea to grease them in the same order every day, so you establish a routine and don’t miss any.

·       Inspect grease points to ensure there aren’t any missing or damaged grease nipples.

·       Clean all grease points to prevent dirt and dust from entering the joints.

·       Remove all the old grease before using new grease, as some grease is not compatible with others.

·       Attach a grease nozzle and pump until you see grease exiting the joint.

When greasing the bucket coupler (the points at which the attachment is attached onto the machine).

o   The pins need to be moved in and out (lock and unlock). Multiple times for grease to move all over the pins.

This will help the pins move easier and smoother when locking and unlocking attachments.
