What's the difference between Submittal Status and Response?

Answer

Submittal statuses only answer one question: is the Submittal Workflow in progress? Fortunately there are only 3 submittal statuses, so it's easy to know the overall progress of a Submittal Workflow, as you can see in the table below.

Submittal Status Workflow Status
Draft Not started
Open In Progress
Closed Complete

Submittal responses are the actual responses that people submit when a workflow is in progress (i.e. when the Submittal is Open). There are many more workflow Responses, but the table below shows a few examples.

Response Category Response Avangrid's Definition
No Response Pending The Submitter(s) or Approver(s) have not replied to the Submittal.
Note: If there are no 'Submitted' responses, then it's the Submitter's ball in court, otherwise it's the Approvers'.
Submitted Submitted The Submitter has sent the Submittal for review.
Reviewed Acknowledged The Approver has seen what the Submitter sent, but neither accepts nor rejects it.
Accepted Accepted The Approver agrees that work can proceed with the Submittal as is.
Approved The Approver agrees that work can proceed with the Submittal as is AND officially consents to the terms in the Submitted document.
Accepted As Noted Accepted as Noted The Approver Accepts the Submittal (see above), but there are minor changes that must be incorporated as the work proceeds.
Approved as Noted The Approver Approves the Submittal (see above), but there are minor changes that must be incorporated as the work proceeds.
Not Accepted Rejected The Approver neither Accepts nor Approves the Submittal and won't review another revision.
Note: This is uncommon.
Revise and Resubmit The Approver Rejects the Submittal but will review another revision from the Submitter after they've incorporated the feedback the Approver provided.
Void The Submitter or Approver no longer needs to respond.
