Answer

Correspondence and Submittals are quite similar. Although both tools are used for approval workflows, there are some key differences that make each better suited for approving different kinds of documents. These differences are highlighted in the table below, which should help you understand the way each is used in Avangrid's Procore.

Requirement Correspondence is a Better Tool if You Need Correspondence Example Submittals is a Better Tool if You Need Submittal Example
Response Deadlines Fixed approval deadlines, but not a fixed "Submit By" date Change Notices/Orders
Must be approved/rejected within ___ days, but can be submitted at any time.
Fixed approval deadlines AND a fixed "Submit By" date (Engineering) Drawing
Must be approved/rejected within ___ days and must be submitted by the deadline in the project schedule.
Tracking % Complete To track how many workflows are open vs closed, but not how many have yet to begin Lessons Learned
Can be created at any time, so % complete will only ever measure the number that exist right now. This means % complete is never fully complete until the end of the project.
To track how many workflows are open, closed, AND not started Studies & Design Calcs
Are needed to complete a project and we should know how many are needed, based on the scope. This means % complete measures all documents (where reviews haven't started, to those in progress, and closed).
