Koester Expectations - Job Site Signage and Maintenance
Department: Field Ops
Topic: Job Site Signage and Maintenance
Objective
To address job site signage and site cleanliness. Establish a standard procedure for job sites to follow regarding signage and cleanliness.
Things to Consider:
Job site signage and cleanliness are two things that we can place ourselves apart from other contractors. Signage is free advertising and promoting of the company. Owners like to place signage on a site to promote their future business.
Job cleanliness is another area that sets us apart. A clean job site not only looks better to everyone, but it is also more professional and helps ensure a safe site.
Before placement of job site signage these are things to consider:
Is a city permit needed? Other requirements such as size, easements and location that sign can be placed, does it impede a driver's line of sight when pulling on to adjacent roads, does job trailer with KOESTER count toward job site signage? If so, will a permit be needed for additional signage, what locates are needed if mounted on posts or mounting on a temp base to move later. When mounting signs on temporary fence will wind become a factor and knock fence over? Is Davis Bacon job sign needed? Does the owner want to place his sign up for what is coming to that site, etc.
Prerequisites
Costs associated with job site signage and job site maintenance should be considered in the job estimate.
Steps:
1. Confirm site signage and maintenance requirements at team start up meeting. Include all safety related signage, and any public information that needs posting. (Ex. sidewalk closed / please excuse our mess).
2. Order signage from tool/equipment department or as need by job requirements.
3. All sites should have at least 1 – 4’x8’ Koester sign placed toward the most traveled roadway.
4. Safety signage should be placed at the site gate entrance(s).
5. Signage should be placed level and plumb so that it will not be constantly knocked over. Plan accordingly.
6. Schedule weekly job site maintenance labor or plan your time to do so.
7. Larger sites should have Koester or 3rd party labor scheduled for weed and grounds maintenance/cleanup. Smaller sites that can be maintained by the superintendent should have the appropriate tools on site (weed eater, etc.)
8. Jobs scheduled through winter months should plan for snow removal. Have a place dedicated to piling snow.
9. Have sand on site for spreading on icy walkways. Salt should not be used on fresh concrete.
10. For larger sites, a snow removal company may be utilized for removal. Contracts or other arrangements need to be made prior to the season, not the day before a snow event.
