Owner Training Procedures
Department: Quality Control
Topic: Onsite Operations
Process: Owner Training Procedures
Objective
Owner trainings are a key part of a smooth transition to owner occupying the building. Proper training can prevent unnecessary callbacks during the warranty period.
Things to Consider
-
Owner trainings can be required by project specs, but even if not required, there are often components of a project that would benefit from providing owner training.
-
Recording of trainings is an option as well to ensure owners have information available down the road.
-
Calendar invites are a great way to coordinate owner trainings.
-
It is often more efficient to have trainings on multiple items on the same day, as many of the involved parties will already be onsite.
Steps
-
Identify areas that will require training at the time of project turnover. Check project documents for requirements
-
Areas that can require training include but are not limited to:
-
Specialty door hardware
-
Cleaning/care of flooring
-
Equipment operation/maintenance
-
Elevators
-
Plumbing
-
Schedule trainings prior to project turnover.
-
Create a training log to document all trainings. Training log should include the following:
- Training topic.
- Trainer (contractor or other training agent)
- List of all trainees.
- Date of training.
- Any training tools used ( videos, software, etc.).
- Links to training tools.
-
Include training log and any training tools used in the OM manual.
