Repair of Broken Company Tools

Objective

Based on industry standards, the decision to replace or repair an item or tool is based on the cost of the repair, cost of replacement, or the age of the toolitself. Things that are considered regarding replacement or being repaired are.   If the cost of the repair is 50% or less of the cost for replacement, or the tool life cycle is 50% or lowerof its expected life cycle, the equipment will be repaired. 

Background

Tools that need repaired are a safety hazard because they are not up to industry standards. 

Is it more cost effective to repair or replace the tool? How many times has this tool been repaired? Is it better to replace from an industry standard?

Steps

When a tool is found in need of repair or / broken you should: 

  1. Notify the Tool Department 

  2. Give the Tool Department a brief description of the problem and how the damage occurred. 

  3. The Tool Department will determine if the tool can be repaired or needs to be replaced. 

  4. The Tool will need to be red tagged out and put in a place no one can access it. 

  5. The tool will then need to be returned and/or picked up from the jobsite.
