Tom Burns

Bio

Thomas Burns, PhD, PE is a Professor of Civil Engineering Technology at Cincinnati State where he has taught a variety of courses to civil engineering technology students for 32 years. In addition to his teaching duties, he served as the chair of the program from 1997 - 2012. During his time at Cincinnati State he has been awarded the Faculty Excellence Award three times as well as being recognized for his service to the American Council of Construction Education for his twelve year tenure serving on the ACCE Board of Trustees. Other current activities include serving on graduate research committees in the Engineering College at the University of Cincinnati where he has been a committee member for a number of degree-seeking students on both the Masters and Doctoral level. Tom is a licensed engineer and pursues a variety scholarly activities. Over his career he has authored five textbooks including his most recent text Real World Applications of BIM in Construction which was the product of a sabbatical spent in the VDC department of well-known construction management firm. From his research endeavors at the University of Cincinnati he has co-authored several papers, the most recent of which was published in the Engineering Journal of the American Institute of Steel Construction. In addition to his scholarly writing, he has also branched out into the world of fiction releasing a novel, EQUILIBRIUM in 2017 and will release its sequel later this year.
