The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in Procore allows you to group related activities under "summary" or "parent" rows. This helps organize large schedules and provides "roll-up" data, where the dates and progress of the parent row are automatically calculated based on its children.
Positional Logic: WBS numbers in this tool are positional, not "sticky." If you move an activity to a different part of the schedule, its WBS number will automatically update to reflect its new location.
Summary Roll-ups: A parent row's duration and percent complete are driven by its sub-activities; you cannot manually edit the dates of a parent row without moving the children.
Navigate to the project's Scheduling tool.
Select the activity row(s) you want to move within the hierarchy.
Tip: Hold Shift to select a range or Ctrl/Cmd to select multiple individual rows.
To Indent (Create a Child): Right-click the selected rows and select Indent. The activities will move to the right, becoming children of the row directly above them.
To Outdent (Move to a Higher Level): Right-click the selected rows and select Outdent. The activities will move to the left, becoming peers of their former parent row.
Right-click an existing activity.
Select Add... and choose Child activity.
This creates a new sub-activity nested directly under your selection.
To move an entire section of the WBS, select the Parent/Summary activity.
Use Cut and Paste (Ctrl/Cmd + X then Ctrl/Cmd + V).
Note: Moving or duplicating a parent activity automatically includes all its children in the action.
