Send a Message in the Conversations Tool (iOS)

To send messages in the Conversations tool on the Procore iOS app.
Things to Consider
- Required User Permissions:
- You must exist in the project's Directory tool.
- If the company who owns the Procore account has enabled Direct Messages for only internal employees, you must be marked as an internal employee. See How do I add someone as an employee of my company?
- If you are sending a message related to an item, you must have appropriate access to that item.
Steps
See the steps below depending on which type of message you want to send:
Send a Direct Message
Important
This is an optional feature that may not be available in the Procore account you are working in. Company Admins can enable or disable the feature in the Company level Admin tool, and they can also choose to enable it for internal employees only. See Configure Access and Settings for the Conversations Tool.
- Open the Procore app on an iOS mobile device.
- Tap the project's Conversations tool.
- Tap Direct Messages.
Note: If you want to send a direct message to an existing conversation, tap the name of the conversation and skip to step 7 below. - Tap the create
icon and select Create Direct Message. - Tap the name of each individual you want to send the direct message to.
- Tap Next.
If you have an existing conversation with the selected individuals, all previous messages are shown. - Tap into the text box and enter your message.
- If you want to mention an individual to notify them of a conversation, tap the @ symbol on your keyboard when writing a message and select their name. See Mention a User in a Conversation (iOS).
- If you want to add attachments or link items to your message, tap the plus
icon and select from the following options:

- Choose from Library: Allows you to choose photos from your device.
- Files from Device: Allows you to choose files from your device.
- Procore Items: Allows you to add files or link to items from the project.
- When you are ready to send the message, tap the send
icon.
The message is automatically added to the conversation.
Send a Message to a Group
- Open the Procore app on an iOS mobile device.
- Tap the project's Conversations tool.
- Tap Groups.
- Tap the group you want to send a message to.
- Tap into the text box and enter your message.
- If you want to mention an individual to notify them of a conversation, tap the @ symbol on your keyboard when writing a message and select their name. See Mention a User in a Conversation (iOS).
- If you want to add attachments or link items to your message, tap the plus icon and select from the following options:

- Choose from Library: Allows you to choose photos from your device.
- Files from Device: Allows you to choose files from your device.

- When you are ready to send the message, tap the send icon.
The message is automatically added to the conversation.
Send a Message Related to an Item
To start a new conversation about an item:
- Open the Procore app on an iOS mobile device.
- Navigate to the relevant tool. See Which project tools support Conversations?
- Tap the item that you want to send a message about.
- Tap Start a Conversation.
- Tap into the text box and enter your message.
- If you want to mention an individual to notify them of a conversation, tap the @ symbol on your keyboard when writing a message and select their name. See Mention a User in a Conversation (iOS).
- If you want to add attachments or link items to your message, tap the plus icon and select from the following options:

To send a message about an item that you are already following:
- Open the Procore app on an iOS mobile device.
- Tap the project's Conversations tool.
- Tap Items.
- Tap the conversation for the item you want to send a message about.
- Tap into the text box and enter your message.
- If you want to mention an individual to notify them of a conversation, tap the @ symbol on your keyboard when writing a message and select their name. See Mention a User in a Conversation (iOS).
- If you want to add attachments or link items to your message, tap the plus icon and select from the following options:
