Track a Folder or File


To track a folder or file in Procore's Documents tool.


  • Tracking a folder or file allows you to receive an e-mail notification whenever a new file is added to a folder, deleted from a folder, or when a new version of a file is uploaded.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permission: 'Read-only' and above on the Documents tool.
  • These permission levels apply to both the Company and Project level Documents tool.
    (Note: Permission levels are tool-specific. For example, you can have Read-only level permissions on the Company level Documents tool and 'Admin' level permissions on a Project level Documents tool. Please keep this in mind when you are looking to tasks at different levels.)
  • When you track a file or folder, you will not get an email every time a file is added, deleted, or updated. Instead, you will get a summary email that goes out at the end of every hour a file is added.
  • If you track a parent folder, you will also be tracking any of it's child folders.


  1. Navigate to the Project level Documents tool.

  2. Select the desired folder or file in Procore's Documents tool using the file tree on the left.

  3. At the top right of the window, you will see an option to track the folder (or file).

  4. Click the checkbox to track the folder or file.

  5. Uncheck the box ot stop getting notification for the file or folder.
