Default Project Stages

Procore will soon be releasing Default Project Stages on the Company level Admin tool. These default stages of construction will help you organize your new and existing projects and provide you with greater insight into your company's overall project status.
Note: You will still be able to create and assign custom project stages, but they must be mapped to a Default Project Stage. See Add a Custom Project Stage.

Default project stages will include the following:

  • Pre-Construction: The contract has not been awarded yet, and no work has been started on the job site.
  • Course of Construction: Work is in process on the job site.
  • Post-Construction: Work on the job site has been completed, but the project is still in close-out, warranty stage, or being finalized.
  • Completed: The project is successfully completed, and there is no work in progress on the job site.
  • Not Awarded: The bid for the project was not won, and no construction work occurred.
  • Canceled: The project was canceled, either during the course of construction or in pre-construction, before any work was started.
 Note

The following Default Project Stages will be excluded from your company's construction volume or project cap, if applicable:

  • Pre-Construction
  • Not Awarded
  • Canceled

These stages can also be hidden if they do not apply to your company.

Default Project Stages will be accessible from the Company level Admin tool, in the Defaults subtab of the 'Project Settings'.

From the Defaults subtab, you can manage, create, and delete standard and customized Stages for your project lifecycle.

In the new Stages table, you will be able to re-order each stage by clicking and dragging the grip handle (⁞⁞).

The order in the Stages table will be reflected in all filters and drop-down menus across Procore.

The new Stages table will also support bulk re-assigning of projects from one stage to another.

Removal of the Bidding Stage Column

With the release of the new Default Project Stages, the 'Bidding Stage' column will be removed from the Stages table in the Company level Admin tool. Since late 2018, projects are no longer required to be in a Bidding Stage in order for bidders to access Preconstruction tools such as Bidding or Planroom. Your company's contract with Procore might allow an unlimited number of projects in a 'Bidding Stage' that are not counted towards your project cap. This feature is limited to projects in bidding, so projects that are in other stages and should not count towards the project cap (for example, projects that were not awarded) are currently included. In our efforts to expand Procore's functionality, Default Project Stages will replace the Bidding Stage to better support all stages of construction by allowing you to create an unlimited number of projects in a default stage of Pre-Construction, Not Awarded, or Canceled.

Common Questions

Will the Bidding stage selection be removed?

Yes, Bidding stages will be removed.


Do we need to do anything if we already have those Project Stages in use when the new defaults are rolled out?

Procore will be in contact with you about mapping your current stages to fall under one of the new defaults.


Do the new project stages change inactive projects that do not count towards construction volume?

No. Default Stages will only create a standardization of stages across Procore.


Will the pre-construction stage allow subcontractors access to the Planroom?

Yes. Subcontractors will still have access to your Planroom when invited to bid.


Will the "completed" stage allow the data within it to be available for historical tracking/trending?

For projects flagged as "active," yes. The Reports tool only supports active projects at this time. See Change a Project's Status to Active or Inactive.
